Final descent is artist Yifan Jiang’s first publication, tracing the emergence of a practice that moves fluidly across mediums. The book gathers a constellation of works from Jiang’s early career, offering a glimpse into the formation of her visual lexicon. A project-based artist, Jiang works through painting, animation, sculpture, and performance. Taking an irreverent approach to epistemology, she explores the grey intersection of the scientific, the psychological, and the magical. Her practice often begins with quotidian moments, which she transforms by layering them with seemingly unrelated elements drawn from multiple cultures and disciplines. Accompanying the images in Jiang’s book is an essay by curator and art critic Valentin Diaconov.
